Dear Journal: OK, I’ll exercise, but I won’t do burpees

Dear Journal:
I’m turning off the news, I can’t take it anymore. I need a break. So, I turn on some music … and scroll social media incessantly. Okay, that is really not helping. Like touching my face, it’s a hard habit to break, but I’m trying. I should be writing my next book, but I am a master procrastinator. More on that another day.
My husband, Mike, is over here doing box jumps. I don’t think I could jump that high once. Now he’s doing sumo squats, and then glute bridges. He has a whole routine. Meanwhile, a nap sounds good.
What day is it, again? Of course, the sluggish feeling I have these days is my own fault. First, I gave myself food poisoning – I think it was the fresh box of lettuce, but I’m not sure. Then I ate too much birthday cake, and I’m still eating it. I mean, it’s sitting right there, someone’s got to eat it, and cake is perfectly acceptable for breakfast. Hmm. And, to top it off, I haven’t been exercising. The covid-19 fifteen is gonna be real.
So. Exercise. I love yoga locally with Shanna Gillette, of Just Be Health and Wellness, and she’s now teaching via videos posted to her Facebook page. It’s a good stretch and balance workout, the right amount of challenge, and relaxing too. I don’t know about you, but I need something relaxing right about now.
As some folks know, my father-in-law is a big walker, rain or shine. I tried to take up jogging last summer, but I prefer Zumba, dance, and kickboxing. Something fun! Not burpees. Whoever came up with burpees is a sadist. Anyway, the best piece of exercise advice I ever got was this: The best workout is the one you enjoy doing. So, I don’t know about you, but I’m going to put on some music and get moving.
Song of the day: “Better When I’m Dancing,” Meghan Trainor
