Twin Harbors jobless rates among state’s highest

The April unemployment rate was 7.5 percent for Grays Harbor and 7.3 percent in Pacific County, compared to 4.6 percent for the state as a whole.

That was better for the Twin Harbors than in March, when it was 8.1 percent for Grays Harbor and 7.7 percent for Pacific.

The statewide rate in April matched a historic low achieved in June of 2007.

The northeast corner of the state shows the highest jobless rates, with four of the worst seven counties — Ferry, Pend Oreille, Okanogan and Stevens — between 10.7 and 7.8 percent.

Grays Harbor, Pacific and Wahkiakum (7.1 percent) were the only other counties above 7 percent.

Lowest in the state was King County at 2.8 percent and next was Snohomish at 3.1 percent.

Thurston County was 4.8 percent and Lewis County was 6.7 percent.
