Weekend Roundup: Raymond falls in regionals to Okanogan

Leading in fourth quarter, Seagulls lose 65-56

The Raymond Seagulls missed a golden opportunity to slot itself in the 2B State quarterfinals with a 65-56 regional-round loss to No. 4 Okanagan on Saturday in Wenatchee.

Raymond (18-2 overall) held a 32-28 lead at the half and were tied at 44-all heading into the fourth quarter.

The Seagulls led by six midway through the final period before the wheels came off, snapping a 17 game winning streak and slotting Raymond into a first-round state elimination game.

“Tough game to lose. From the onset it felt like our toughest opponent was ourselves,” Raymond head coach Jason Koski said, adding his team gave up far too many offensive rebounds, didn’t win the 50/50 balls and committed 19 turnovers. “The game came down to our inability to be consistent enough to demand from ourselves to win our assignments.”

Senior guard Kyra Gardner led Raymond with 25 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Freshman Karsyn Freeman scored 16 points for Raymond with sophomore guard Kyndal Koski adding 13 points and three steals for the Seagulls.

With the loss, the fifth-seeded Seagulls will face No. 12 Mabton in a first-round state tournament game scheduled for 12:15 p.m. Wednesday at the Spokane Arena.
