Weekend Roundup: Montesano sweeps weekend series of non-league games

Montesano’s softball team swept a two-game series while Aberdeen’s baseball team routed Franklin as we take a look at the Twin Harbors sports action from the weekend.

PREP SOFTBALL

Montesano 15, Lynden Christian 9

Montesano scored in every inning en route to a 15-9 win over Lynden Christian Saturday morning in Montesano.

The Bulldogs (5-2 overall) got out to an early lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first when Liv Robinson scored on an error followed later by Addi Kersker racing home on a wild pitch.

Monte went up nine in the second on a bases-loaded, two run single by Kylee Wisdom, a Carsyn Wintrip sacrifice fly, an error, a two-run triple by Jordan Karr and Kersker scoring for the second time in the game on a wild pitch.

Leading 10-0, Monte allowed seven runs in the top of the third on six hits, two walks and a hit batter in the frame.

But Monte’s offense continued to perform, scoring a run in the bottom of the fourth on a Karr triple, a run in the fifth on an Addi Potts single, and three runs in the sixth on an error, another Karr triple and a Kersker RBI base hit.

Grace Gooding picked up the win for Montesano, allowing two earned runs on five hits and two walks with eight strikeouts in 6 2-3 innings pitched.

Karr led Monte at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two triples.

Liv Robinson went 2-for-3 with four runs scored while Kersker filled up her stat line with two hits, two runs and three RBI.

Montesano 10, Lakeside (Nine Mile) 0

Monte starter Riley Timmons pitched a gem while the Bulldogs offense stayed hot in a 10-0 victory over Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) on Saturday afternoon in Montesano.

Timmons dazzled in the circle in Monte’s second game of the day, allowing two singles while striking out eight in six innings of shutout softball.

The Bulldogs junior ace got plenty of run support as Monte scored three runs in the first on RBI singles from Karr and Ali Parkin followed by Timmons helping her own cause with a fielder’s choice RBI groundout to score Ember Jones.

An Alyssa Maldonado RBI single scored Carsyn Wintrip in the second with Wintrip driving in Jones with a double to center field in the third.

Monte put the game in mercy-rule territory with five in the fourth, highlighted by RBI doubles by Kalia Hatton and Maldonado, a run-scoring single from Liv Robinson, and Jordan Karr’s third RBI triple of the day.

Montesano gets back to league play with a game against Elma at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Montesano High School.

Aberdeen 16, Franklin 6

Aberdeen’s offense scored 12 runs in the first inning to cruise to a 16-6 five-inning victory over Franklin on Saturday in the Regional Athletic Complex in Olympia.

Trailing 1-0 after the top half of the first, Aberdeen (4-3) loaded the bases on three straight walks to lead off the bottom of the first. Bobcats shortstop Hunter Eisele cleared the bases with a line-drive double to put Aberdeen up 3-1.

Aberdeen added RBI hits by Kale Goings, Kyle Miller and Trevon Nichols in the frame and benefited from nine walks, a hit batter and a balk in the inning.

Aberdeen scored four runs in the fourth on an Eisele RBI walk, a two-run single off the bat of Chad Fretts and an error.

Eisele led the way with two hits, two runs and five RBI for Aberdeen.

Aidan Baker walked three times and scored three runs for Aberdeen with Mason Sorensen scoring two runs and belting a double in the second inning.

Kyle Miller added a pair of runs and drove in two runs in the game.

Three Franklin pitchers combined to walk 16 Aberdeen batters in the contest.

Bubba Jones got the win, allowing one unearned run on no hits, two walks and three strikeouts.

Aberdeen will face Tumwater in a 2A Evergreen League matchup at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Pioneer Park in Aberdeen.

MEN’S COLLEGE GOLF

Grays Harbor College signs Wyoming golfer

Grays Harbor College men’s golf program has announced that Hayden Hayes of Casper, Wyoming has committed to play for the Chokers next fall.

Hayes is the top player for Natrona County High School and has competed in the Wyoming State Junior Golf Association.

Hayes plans to study business while at GHC.
