Tuesday was chock-full of local prep and college teams in action. Here’s a quick rundown.
BOYS SOCCER
Hoquiam 4, Raymond-South Bend 3
Hoquiam’s Kevin Catalan scored three goals in leading Hoquiam to a victory over Raymond-South Bend in Hoquiam.
Catalan scored goals in the 25th minute (assist Mason Kelly), in the 51st minute and the 80th minute, the latter tying the game at 3-3 and forcing overtime as Hoquiam rallied from being down 3-1 early in the second half.
With 32 seconds remaining in the second overtime period, Hoquiam (2-3 overall) got the game-winning goal when senior Cavan Estrada scored on a header from Alan Ramirez.
“The team never gave up the fight,” Hoquiam head coach Alan Carloza said. “Tonight showed that this team is willing to suffer together to find the results we need.”
Elma 2, Tenino 0
Elma defeated host Tenino to remain tied atop the 1A Evergreen League standings.
Elma (5-1-1 overall, 5-0 league) took a 1-0 lead on a goal from Gavin Blakett, who tapped in a cross from Canon Seaberg in the first minute of the game.
The Eagles were awarded a penalty kick in the 25th minute on an intentional hand ball on a shot from Abel Alatorre. Seaberg placed the penalty kick in the top corner for a 2-0 Elma lead.
The Eagles kept possession and shut down any Tenino scoring chances, including a fearless, charging save from Elma keeper Andy Salvatierra as Beavers forwards bore down on him in the 65th minute.
With the win, Elma is tied atop the league lead with Forks, both with 5-0 league records.
Aberdeen 5, Shelton 2
Aberdeen defeated host Shelton as the Bobcats (3-3 overall, 2-0 2A Evergreen) scored on goals by AJ Sanchez on a header 10 minutes into the game (assist Tony Hernandez), in the 23rd minute on a rebound by Miguel Martinez, in the 24th minute on a 20-yard shot from Hernandez (assist Martinez) and in the 31st minute on a goal by Carlos Mendoza (assists Logan Sias and Hugo Garcia) to make 4-0 in the first half.
A Shelton penalty kick late in the half made it a 4-1 game at halftime.
In the 46th minute, Aberdeen’s Kaleb Myers scored off a cross by Edwin Quintana to give the Bobcats a 5-1 advantage.
Shelton scored on a long shot later in the half to complete the scoring.
“We have improved so much from the beginning of the season in keeping our width on offense and compactness on defense,” Aberdeen head coach Larry Fleming said. “Communication on both ends of the field was crucial to our success as well.”
Aberdeen JV won 4-2. Julian Garcia, Gil Lopez, Ruben Oropeza and Mateo Gonzalez scored.

BASEBALL
Montesano 8, Elma 6
Montesano used an eight-run inning to defeat Elma in the first game of a doubleheader in Montesano.
Down 5-0, Monte (6-1) scored eight runs in the bottom of the fifth, capitalizing on two hit batsmen, an error and five hits in the inning, including back-to-back RBI doubles by Cayleb Reninger and Malaki Osbekoff.
Elma responded with an unearned run in the sixth but never got closer in taking the loss.
Montesano was led by Reninger (3-4, 2B, R, RBI) and Bode Poler (2-3, R, RBI) with Trace Ridgway (1-4, R, 2RBI) and Osbekoff (1-3, 2B, R, 2RBI) driving in two runs each.
JT Tiffany (4-5, 2B, 4R) led Elma, with Blake Corr (2-3, 2B RBI) also having a multi-hit game for the Eagles.
Ridgway (5IP, 5R, ER, 7H, 4K, 2BB) earned the win for Monte, while Eagles starter Cobey Moore (4.1IP, 8R, 7ER, 7H, 8K, 4BB) took the loss.

Montesano 8, Elma 7
Montesano scored two runs in its final at-bat to defeat Elma in the nightcap.
Down 7-6 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Montesano tied the game when Bode Poler singled to drive home Josh Wills, who reached on an error earlier in the inning.
The Bulldogs’ Lucas Salstrom, who was aboard on an error and advanced to third on Poler’s hit, then scored on another Elma error to give Montesano the walk-off victory.
Monte took a 6-4 lead with four runs in the third inning on RBI singles from Jack Anderson, Cayleb Reninger and Wills.
But Elma (5-2) made it a 6-5 game when Caleb Knutson scored on a passed ball in the top of the fourth and took a 7-6 lead on a two-run double by JT Tiffany an inning later.
Wills (2-2, R, 3RBI) led Monte while Tiffany (1-4, 2B, 2RBI), Brett Palmer (1-3, 2B R) and Brody Rustemeyer (1-3, 2B, RBI) all doubled for Elma.
Bulldogs relief pitcher Jackson Busz (2.1IP, 0R, H, 3K) picked up the win for Monte.

Ocosta 11, PWV 1
Ocosta defeated Pe Ell-Willapa Valley in the first game of a doubleheader in Westport.
Ocosta pitcher Colby Scheuber held the Titans to an earned run on one hit with 12 strikeouts to just one walk over five innings pitched.
On offense, Ocosta (6-3) was led by Andrew Martin (3-4, R, 2RBI), Harley Figueroa (2-4, 2B, 2RBI), Fredrick Bishop (2-2, R, RBI) and Clayton Welch (2-2, R, RBI).
Kjirstin Hopfer and Jackson Reid each drove in two runs for the Wildcats.
Garrett Keeton got the only hit of the game for PWV off Scheuber on a single in the top of the first inning.
Ocosta scored three in the second, four in the third and four in the fifth on 12 hits.
PWV 16, Ocosta 11
PWV earned a split of Tuesday’s doubleheader by winning the nightcap.
Ocosta committed eight errors in the game and walked 17 Titan batters, leading to seven of PWV’s 16 runs being unearned.
Garrett Keeton (3-5, 2 2B, R, 4RBI) and Hudson Barnum (3-5, 6R, RBI) led PWV.
Gavin Hampton (3-5, 2B, R, 3RBI) had a double and drove in three runs for the Titans.
Colby Scheuber (3-4, 2 2B, 2R, 6RBI) and Harley Figueroa (2-4, 2R, RBI) led Ocosta.
Barnum earned the victory on the mound, allowing four earned runs on two hits with a strikeout and four walks in 2/3 innings of work.
Aiden Young threw the final 5 2-3 innings for PWV, allowing four earned runs on nine hits with two walks and two strikeouts to earn the save.
Jackson Reid (2.2IP, 7R, 2ER, 2H, 3K, 9BB) took the loss for Ocosta.

WF West 10, Aberdeen 0
Aberdeen managed just one hit in a loss to WF West in Aberdeen.
Eli Brown’s single in the bottom of the sixth inning broke up the Bearcat pitching staff’s no-hit bid and was the lone base hit in the game for Aberdeen (3-4, 2-4 2A Evergreen).
WF West put the game out of reach with seven runs in the fourth and three runs in the seventh inning.
Maliki Balesteri took the loss for Aberdeen, allowing seven runs (six earned) on four hits with three strikeouts and three walks in 3 2-3 innings pitched.
