T-Birds 54, Bobcats 39

At Sam Benn Gym, Tumwater took flight early and had Aberdeen chasing it throughout this Evergreen 2A Conference matchup on Thursday night.

Reagan Glanz led the Bobcats (1-3, 5-7) with nine points, six rebounds and two steals, with Angel Jones pulling down eight rebounds.

“They got out to a good start and we didn’t,” AHS head coach Jeff Niemi said. “We had 13 turnovers in the first half and they got out and ran on our steals. The second half wasn’t bad. Down 22 in the fourth, we had a unique lineup out there and they had a good quarter. We brought down the deficit and showed we can compete with them. It was a good finish for us.”

Niemi cited Glanz, Ryder Heikkila, Kyra Gallinger, Jones and Brianna Roberts as the lineup that helped the Bobcats win the fourth quarter, 15-8.

The Wildcats (4-8, 6-10) grabbed an 11-point lead after one quarter, but found their rhythm after halftime to explode for 24 points and roll past the Tribe.

“We had a really good start to the game, had a lull in the second quarter, but had an outstanding third quarter,” Ocosta coach Jason Quinby said. “We were able to get out in transition and cut our turnovers down. Our energy and our ball movement was really good in that third quarter.”

MENLO — Host Willapa Valley rocketed out to a quick 6-0 lead on 3-point baskets from Matt Pearson and Walker Oblad before Ilwaco settled down and ran away with this Pacific 2B League contest at Tenoski Gym on Thursday.

The Fishermen went on a 20-3 run to take over the game after a timeout following the dual 3-point baskets.

“We scored the first six points, they called timeout and their coach challenged his kids,” Valley head coach Jay Pearson said. “After that, they went on the run and we went back on our heels. We never got going again. They played a near-perfect basketball game and we didn’t have an answer for them.”

Matt Pearson led the Vikings (5-6, 9-6) with 11 points and Leonel Ruelas added seven rebounds. Chad Flemetis and Frank Roonsburg were cited for their work by coach Pearson.

Kawashima was cited for his district qualifying swim in the 100 breaststroke, Aaron Dyer for a time drop in the 200 free and Jared Durr for his overall performance.
