Saturday/Monday Roundup: Aberdeen’s Kyle Hurd wins 10K race at Harvest Classic

LONGVIEW — Aberdeen’s Kyle Hurd won the varsity 10-kilometer race in a meet record time to highlight Saturday’s Harvest Classic at Life Works in Longview.

Hurd won the boys race in 35:39, which reset the meet record and the 15-19 age group record as well. Santos Son took fifth overall at 39:06, third in the 15-19 age group. Darln Barragan was seventh overall and Colby Miller was 11th overall, but first in the 14-under age group.

Faith Cardenas led the AHS girls team with a top-20 finish.

On Wednesday, Aberdeen takes on Tumwater in a league meet.

Nike Twilight Invite

MARYSVILLE — Montesano braved the large field of teams to compete at the 10th annual Nike Twilight Invitational on Saturday evening.

Jake Mustard led the abbreviated Montesano team with a 59th place finish overall at 17:57. Josef Aschenbrenner, braden Stowers, Tristan Bodwell and Thomas Berstrom all competed in the meet.

Montesano head coach James Edwards noted Bodwell and Berstrom finished with personal-best times.

Girls Swimming

Mukilteo Invitational

FEDERAL WAY — Aberdeen finished 14th overall out of 41 teams, mostly Class 3A and 4A schools, with several big swims during the Mukilteo Invitational at the King County Aquatic Center on Saturday.

Annika Eisele had two top-eight finishes on the day, taking seventh overall in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.50) and eighth in the 200 individual medley (2:19.08). Kayleia Sias added two 16th-place finishes as well — 100 fly (1:05.36) and 100 back (1:05.30).

“It was a tough competitive meet for the Bobcats,” AHS head coach Jan Simons said. “It was a great outing for the girls and the opportunity to swim in a world class facility.”

Karime Baltazar was cited for PR swims, along with Katie Lewis time drop in the 200 free and Mari Rabung time drop in the 500 free by Simons.

On Wednesday, Aberdeen hosts Black Hills.

Bobcats 241, Tigers 250

CENTRALIA — Playing Riverside Golf Course for the second time in less than a week, Aberdeen dropped strokes throughout the lineup to knock off Centralia in an Evergreen 2A Conference match on Monday.

Brenden King earned medalist honors for the second time with a 40.

“Course familiarity has its benefits; we dropped 11 strokes from last Wednesday when we played there,” AHS head coach Dan Sundstrom said.

Sundstrom cited Evan Warra, who dropped eight strokes on Monday from his round on Wednesday.

On Friday, Aberdeen hosts Black Hills at Grays Harbor Country Club.
