Wildcats sweep

LACEY — Ocosta rolled to the Pacific 2B League baseball championship by sweeping Northwest Christian, 16-1 and 12-1, in a doubleheader Saturday at the RAC in Lacey.

The Wildcats, who have completed their regular season, wound up 11-1 in league and 14-5 overall heading into district competition.

Drawing a first-round bye, they will open District 2B competition against a Central League foe at 3 p.m. Saturday at GAR Park in Westport.

“One of our team goals was to win a league championship and we accomplished that,” Ocosta coach Mike Allton said. “I’m really happy with the way we’re playing baseball right now.”

Needing no worse than a split Saturday to earn an undisputed league crown, the Wildcats closed out the opener in five innings via the 10-run mercy rule.

After a three-base error on an errant pickoff throw gave NWC the early lead, Ocosta struck back with six runs in the third inning.

Kobe Beck delivered a bases-loaded double to drive in two runs and Zach Allton continued to the plate on a wild throw. Cole Hatton added an RBI single later in the inning and Hayden Hoff chipped in with a two-run single in the fourth.

Hoff pitched a three-hitter to pick up the victory. Matthew Hart, who is doubling in baseball and track this season, had three hits for the Wildcats.

Winning pitcher Cole Hatton helped his own cause with three hits in the nightcap. The Wildcats cashed in heavily on eight N.W. Christian errors. The Navigators committed 18 miscues in the two games.
