PWV dominates North Beach

Prep football: Titans 56, Hyaks 14

MENLO — Pe Ell-Willapa Valley locked up a share of the SWW 2B Coastal Division title with a convincing 56-14 victory over North Beach on Friday night.

Peter Hamilton rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns, while senior defensive back Cub Bair intercepted three passes and returned one for a touchdown to lead the Titans (4-0, 6-2).

The Titans are assured of no worse than a tie for the division title, but needs a win next Friday at Raymond to secure the top district seed.

“The boys played real well. They came out on all cylinders,” said PWV head coach Josh Fluke. The entire offensive line played real well. They had an excellent game blocking and the defense just played an excellent game.”

PWV opened the scoring just seconds into the first quarter on a 53-yard TD run by Hamilton. He followed that up less than two minutes later with an 8-yard scoring run. A two-point conversion made the score 14-0.

The Titans had three more scoring plays in the first quarter: A 2-yard TD pass from Matt Pearson to Ryan Shepherd; a 5-yard TD run by Tyson Nissell and Bair’s 20-yard interception return for a score.

Max Smith tacked on a 16-yard TD run early in the second quarter, while Nissell added a 1-yard run with 3:11 remaining in the first half. The Titans led 50-0 at intermission.

PWV’s only score of the second half came on a 2-yard run by Keyton Barnum for a 56-0 lead.

North Beach (0-4, 2-6) avoided a shutout with a 60-yard run by Tavo Muro in the third quarter. The two point conversion was good to make it 56-8. The Hyaks added one more score with 7:39 remaining in the game on a 39-yard TD pass from Brenden Chaney to Ben Poplin.

While Titans will travel to Raymond on Friday, North Beach will play at Ilwaco.
