Prep Softball Roundup: Aberdeen back in a tie for first after win, Tumwater loss

Aberdeen 4, Centralia 0

Aberdeen is once again in control of its own destiny after a 4-0 win over Centralia on Friday in Centralia.

With the Bobcats win combined with Tumwater’s 6-4 loss to W.F. West on Friday, Aberdeen (9-1 overall, 4-1 2A Evergreen) moves back into a first-place tie with the Thunderbirds.

Aberdeen scored a run in the top of the third when Audree Gaddis scored on a steal of home.

Outfielder Scotlyn Lecomte doubled Aberdeen’s lead when she drove in shortstop Zoe Vessey with a sacrifice fly in the right-field foul territory in the fifth.

Vessey doubled in Kylie Wilson in the sixth followed by Lecomte scoring on a Tigers error in the seventh to put the Cats up 4-0.

Aberdeen ace Lilly Camp pitched another gem on Friday, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out 14 in seven scoreless innings.

Vessey led the Bobcats offense with a perfect 3-for-3 performance from the plate.

Neal, Camp and Ember Jones had two hits each for Aberdeen.

The Cats take on Black Hills at 4:30 p.m. on Monday at Black Hills High School.

Montesano 10, Forks 1

Playing its fifth game in five days, Montesano cruised past Forks 10-1 on Friday in Montesano.

The Bulldogs (10-4) took control of the game with five runs in the bottom of the first inning paced by six singles, including two-run lines from shortstop Addi Kersker and first baseman Kylee Wisdom.

Monte pitcher Grace Gooding and center fielder Adda Potts drove in a run apiece with RBI singles in the bottom of the fifth for a 7-0 lead.

One inning later, Lex Stanfield scored on a ground out by catcher Ali Parkin followed by a two-run double off the bat of Jaelyn Butterfield.

Gooding earned the win in the circle, allowing one earned run on four hits with nine strikeouts in five innings pitched.

Violet Prince threw two scoreless innings of relief for Monte, allowing one walk while striking out five without giving up a hit.

Monte hosts Hoquiam at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.

Ocosta 16, Wahkiakum 1

Ocosta took advantage of Wahkiakum mistakes for a 16-1 victory on Friday in Wahkiakum.

The Wildcats (3-3) led 3-1 before scoring 13 runs in the top of the fourth, capped by a three-run, inside-the-park home run from center fielder Jolissa Schlegel.

Ocosta pitcher Joanah Rosander earned the win, allowing one unearned run on three hits and five walks with 12 strikeouts in five innings pitched.

Schlegel had three hits, scored three runs and drove in six to lead Ocosta, which drew seven walks and scored 15 unearned runs on four Mules errors.

The Wildcats take on Oakville at 4 p.m. on Tuesday in Westport.
