Montesano 7, Bellevue Christian 6

Montesano rallied for a thrilling 7-6 walk-off win over Bellevue Christian on Friday at Vessey Field in Montesano.

Facing a challenge against the seventh-ranked Vikings (13-4 overall), the top-ranked Bulldogs (16-2) took a 1-0 lead when catcher Colton Grubb singled with two outs, stole second and came in to score on a Zach Timmons ground-ball single to center field.

The Vikings responded with three runs in the top of the third inning – taking the lead on a Montesano infield error – and added two more runs in the top of the fourth, taking a 5-1 lead on another error by the Monte defense.

The Bulldogs rallied with four runs in the bottom half of the frame that included RBI singles from Tyson Perry and Timmons to tie the game at 5-all.

In the top of the sixth, Bellevue Christian regained he lead when Declan Englund singled and Monte’s third error of the game allowed Mason Hill to score the go-ahead run.

But in the seventh, Timmons reached on a fielder’s choice with one out and advanced to second on a wild pitch.

Timmons would come across to score the tying run on a Vikings error off a Caden Grubb ground ball, tying the game at 6-6 to go to extra innings.

After Montesano pitcher worked around a one-out single to get out of the top of the eighth, the Bulldogs offense got to work when left fielder Mason Fry led off the bottom half of the frame with with a walk.

Fry advanced to second on a bunt single by right fielder Dennis Churchill, but the two remained stranded after Vikings pitcher Brayden Rockey got the next two Bulldogs batters out.

Colton Grubb then walked to load the bases for Timmons, who singled to left field to score Fry with the game-winning run, setting off a Bulldogs celebration.

Caden Grubb earned the win, allowing an unearned run on two hits and five walks with three strikeouts in four innings of relief.

Perry started the game, surrendering three earned runs on two hits, four walks and two strikeouts in 2 1-3 innings pitched before giving way to Toren Crites (1.2 IP, 2R, ER, 4H, 2K).

Timmons led Monte with three hits and three RBI while Colton Grubb and Churchill had two hits apiece for the Bulldogs.

Montesano hosts Rochester for a key 1A Evergreen League doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

Montesano 21, Hoquiam 5

Montesano’s offense had its way with a young Hoquiam Grizzlies squad with a 21-5 win in the first game of a doubleheader on Thursday at Olympic Stadium in Hoquiam.

Montesano recorded 18 hits in the game – including five doubles – drew seven walks and had seven hit batters in the rout.

Shortstop Kolson Hendrickson had three hits, scored three runs and drove in a game-high six runs to lead the Bulldogs.

Caden Grubb started on the bump for Monte, allowing no runs or hits while striking out the side in the first inning.

Brody Williamson (IP, 5R, 3ER, 0H, K) and Krew Messick (3 IP, 0R, 2H, BB, 3K) combined to throw four innings of relief for Montesano.

Hoquiam was led by left fielder Daymond Cole and designated hitter Tristan Bland, each of whom had a base hit in the game.

Six Hoquiam pitchers combined to allow 21 runs, 16 of which were earned as the Grizzlies defense committed six errors in the game.

Montesano completed the doubleheader sweep with a 17-2 victory over Hoquiam on Thursday in Hoquiam.

Monte jumped on the Grizzlies (3-12, 0-10 1A Evergreen) for six runs in the top of the first, capped by an RBI single by third baseman Carter Ames.

The Bulldogs scored a combined 10 runs in the fourth and fifth innings, highlighted by back-to-back RBI triples by infielder Zach Timmons and catcher Colton Grubb in the fourth and a three-run, inside-the-park home run by Timmons in the fifth.

Timmons led Monte with two hits while driving in five runs.

Seven different Bulldogs recorded a base hit in the game and Monte batters also drew seven walks off of three Hoquiam pitchers.

Monte left fielder Brody Williamson made the most of his at-bats, driving in four runs without a base hit.

Damon Bird earned the win for Monte, allowing two earned runs on three hits and three walks with five strikeouts in four innings pitched.

Timmons allowed two walks and had a strikeout in one scoreless inning of relief.

Hoquiam’s Joey Bozich, Nite Turpin and Tristan Bland had a hit apiece to lead the Grizzlies, with Turpin’s fourth-inning double being the only extra-base hit for the Grizzlies.

Tumwater 12, Aberdeen 0

Aberdeen struggled to keep pace with Tumwater in a 12-0 five-inning loss on Friday in Tumwater.

The Bobcats (8-8, 5-7 2A Evergreen) managed just two hits off the first-place Thunderbirds (14-4, 12-0) and were beset by a seven-run Tumwater second inning.

Aberdeen’s two hits in the game came in the top of the second inning when third baseman Chad Fretts singled with one out and advanced to second on a Mylan Bruner walk.

After a line out by right fielder Gabe Matthews, Trevon Maynard singled to left to load the bases.

But Tumwater pitcher Luke Houk struckout Aberdeen catcher Sam Schreiber to end the threat.

Tumwater took control the following half inning after an Aberdeen error led to the first two runs of the game and opened the door for the T-Birds offense, which was helped by three walks and a hit batter in the seven-run second.

Tumwater scored four more runs in the third on a grand slam home run off the bat of Jimmy Womach with two outs.

Three Aberdeen pitchers combined to allow 10 earned runs on eight hits with six walks, three hit batters and six strikeouts.

Aidan Baker took the loss, allowing five earned runs on three hits and four walks with a strikeout in 1 1-3 innings pitched.

Tyce Greene (1.2 IP, 4R, 4ER, 3H, 2BB, K) and Maynard (IP, R, ER, 2H, K) pitched in relief for the Bobcats.

Aberdeen opens the final week of the regular season with a game at Centralia at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

Elma 11, Hoquiam 1

Elma needed just five innings to take the first game of a doubleheader 11-1 over Hoquiam on Friday in Elma.

The Eagles (7-9-1, 5-7 1A Evergreen) scored six runs over the first two innings to take an early lead over the Grizzlies (3-12, 0-10).

First baseman Brody Palmer got Elma on the board with a two-run double in the first and the Eagles took a 6-0 lead on RBI singles in the second by catcher Jack Alexander, outfielder Isaac McGaffey and Palmer.

Hoquiam responded with a run in the top of the third on Nite Turpin RBI ground out to score Daymond Cole, who was on board with a one-out single.

Elma added a run on an error in the fourth and walked off with the mercy-rule win with four runs in the fifth, capping the game when pitcher Ethan Camas scored on a steal of home.

McGaffey and Alexander had three hits apiece to lead Elma while Palmer also had a multi-hit game for the Eagles.

Cole and first baseman Ryan Pullar had base hits for Hoquiam.

Camas earned the win, allowing one unearned run on two hits and six strikeouts over five innings pitched.

Hoquiam’s Joey Bozich took the loss, surrendering 10 earned runs on 13 hits and two walks with four strikeouts in four innings pitched.

Elma 10, Hoquiam 0

Elma completed the twin-bill sweep with a 10-0 win over Hoquiam in the nightcap on Friday in Elma.

As they did in the first game, the Eagles scored six runs over the first two frames, paced by RBI singles in each inning from first baseman Brody Palmer.

A two-run single by right fielder T.J. Dunlap in the fourth and an RBI single from outfielder Isaac McGaffey and a run on an error in the fifth completed Elma’s second 10-run rule victory of the day.

Palmer had three hits to lead Elma while Danton Cole had a pair of singles to lead the Grizzlies.

Blake Benzschawel earned the win for Elma, allowing three hits and two walks with a strikeout in four innings pitched.

Palmer allowed one hit in a scoreless inning of relief.

Talan Abbott took the loss for Hoquiam, allowing four earned runs on eight hits and four walks in 4 2-3 innings pitched.

Hoquiam allowed six unearned runs thanks to four defensive errors in the game.

Elma plays at Toledo at 3 p.m. on Monday.

Hoquiam has a doubleheader at Tenino starting at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

Ocosta saw a victory slip away late in a 9-8 loss to Oakville on Thursday in Oakville.

The Wildcats (5-11) took a 7-3 lead with four runs in the top of the fourth inning, highlighted by a two-run double by Marc Sevilla and capped by a run-scoring single by Bryce Bottelson.

Ocosta added a run in the fifth on a Torence Bonina double to go up 8-3.

After Oakville scored a run in the bottom of the fifth on a single by Joseph Charles, the Acorns rallied in the bottom of the seventh.

A leadoff walk followed by an error led to an RBI double by Dre Kluth followed by a two-run single to make it an 8-7 ballgame.

With two outs and the bases loaded, Ocosta reliever Chris Arbona walked Daniel Rodas to force in the tying run.

One batter later, Ocosta pitcher Kevin Lopez, hit Gio Rodas iwth a pitch to force the winning run and give the Acorns the 9-8 walk-off victory.

Bonina and shortstop Troy Griffith had three hits apiece to lead the Wildcats.

Ocosta starting pitcher Dominick Hanson-Miranda allowed four earned runs on four hits with five walks and four strikeouts in 5 2-3 innings.

Ocosta plays at Northwest Christian at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

Pe Ell-Willapa Valley earned a 15-2 mercy-rule win over Raymond-South Bend in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday in South Bend.

The Titans (12-5, 8-2 2B Pacific) took control of the game with an eight-run second inning, capped by an RBI single by first baseman Brody Aust to take a 10-0 lead over the Ravens (5-11, 4-5).

RSB scored its two runs in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI ground out by Caiden De Los Santos and a run-scoring single by shortstop Keeton Nichols.

Smaciarz and shortstop Brayden Ruddell had three hits apiece to lead a Titans offense that had eight players collect a base hit in the game.

The Titans scored seven unearned runs off four Ravens errors.

Smaciarz earned the win, allowing two unearned runs on a hit and three walks with 10 strikeouts in five innings pitched.

Pe Ell-Willapa Valley needed just three innings to complete the doubleheader sweep with a 18-0 win over Raymond-South Bend in the nightcap.

Leading 3-0 in the top of the second inning, the Titans scored 15 runs on five hits, five walks, three errors and two hit batters, taking an 18-0 lead when catcher Mauricio Morales singled to drive in Kannyon and Eddie Clements.

Morales and Blane King led PWV with two hits apiece.

The Titans scored nine unearned runs off of three RSB pitchers and the Ravens defense committed six errors in the game.

Eddie Clements earned the win, allowing one hit and two walks with three strikeouts in three scoreless innings pitched.

Nolen Miller got the only hit of the game for RSB with a two-out triple in the bottom of the first inning.
