Hoquiam’s Cady, Montesano’s Timmons win top all-league softball awards

After finising 1-2 atop the league, the Hoquiam Grizzlies and Montesano Bulldogs swept top honors as the 1A Evergreen all-league softball team was announced for the 2023 season.

Leading the way was Hoquiam’s Ashlinn Cady and Montesano’s Riley Timmons.

Cady, a senior left fielder, was named the league’s Offensive MVP after hitting a team-leading .571 with 12 runs, six doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI in league play, leading the league-champion Grizzlies to a perfect 8-0 1A Evergreen record.

Timmons won the league’s Defensive MVP for the second-place Bulldogs. The junior right-hander finished the season going 15-2 with a 2.11 ERA, striking out 155 batters in 109 2-3 innings.

Hoquiam lead all teams with four players named to the first team.

Grizzlies senior pitcher Carron Blood (.400, 2 HR, 13 RBI), junior catcher Faith Prosch (.500, 3 HR, 4 2B, 12 RBI), senior shortstop Graci Bonney-Spradlin (.400, 14 R, 8 SB) and senior second baseman Ella Folkers (.440, 14 R, 7 2B, 10 RBI) were standouts in Hoquiam’s eight-game sweep through the league schedule.

Three Montesano Bulldogs were named First Team, led by its lone senior and two of their super-sophomores.

Bulldogs senior second basemen Jordan Karr (.462, 39 R, 6 3B, 20 SB), sophomore catcher Ali Parkin (.538, 12 2B, 5 3B, HR, 44 RBI) and sophomore first baseman Kylee Wisdom (.325, 4 HR, 27 RBI) each earned first-team nods.

The Elma Eagles, which placed third in the league, had three players named all-league First Team.

Eagles senior pitcher Madison Monroe (.390, 25 R, 18 RBI), senior catcher Brooklyne Swarts (.378, 18 R, 17 RBI) and senior shortstop Emmie Spencer (.365, 19 R, 8 SB) were named to the First Team.

Earning Coaching Staff of the Year honors was Hoquiam head coach Keith Reynvaan and assistant coach Ed Dawson after leading the Grizzlies to an unbeaten league record and 1A Evergreen League championship.
