BOYS SOCCER

Aberdeen 6, Black Hills 0

Aberdeen won its third straight league game with a 6-0 demolition of the Black Hills Wolves on Friday in Aberdeen.

The Bobcats (4-3 overall, 3-0 2A Evergreen) scored in the fourth minute after a cross from Miguel Martinez was put into the back of the net by Kaleb Myers.

Three minutes later, Martinez scored off an assist from Tony Hernandez to give Aberdeen a 2-0 lead.

Halfway through the first half, Hernandez received a through ball from Edwin Quintana and scored for a 3-0 advantage.

With three minutes left in the first half, Aberdeen’s Logan Sias scored off an assist from Carlos Mendoza for a 4-0 lead at the half.

In the second half, Martinez chipped in a goal in the 51st minute (assist from Alan Avalos) and completed the scoring at 6-0 when Angel Sanchez scored on what Bobcats head coach Larry Fleming called “a spectacular header” off a cross from Myers in the 64th minute.

“Another solid game for our team in all areas,” Fleming said. “Dominated from start to finish no matter who was in or what positions they were playing. A great overall team win.”

Avalos, Javier Garcia, Carlos Campos and Hugo Garcia led the Aberdeen defense and helped goalkeepers Griffin Kincaid and Antonio Granados keep a clean sheet.

Aberdeen’s junior varsity team won 8-0 on Friday.

Luke Niemi scored three goals and Oscar Galeana, Mateo Gonzalez, Ruben Oropeza and Daniel Guzman scored a goal apiece for Aberdeen, which also benefited from a Black Hills own goal in the victory.

SOFTBALL

Hoquiam 4, Tenino 3

A sixth-inning rally sparked by an error-prone defense led to a 4-3 Hoquiam win over Tenino in the first game of a doubleheader on Friday in Hoquiam.

Tied at two in the bottom of the sixth, Grizzlies second baseman Ella Folkers tripled to center field and scored on a Tenino error to give Hoquiam a 3-2 lead.

After a second Tenino error put Charli Sampson-Eastman on base and moved Carron Blood to third, Hoquiam scored when Blood came home on Tenino’s third-consecutive error of the inning.

Leading 4-2, Hoquiam (4-6, 4-4) held off a Tenino rally in the seventh that saw the Beavers score a run on an error followed by advancing the tying run to third base with the go-ahead run on first with two outs.

But Hoquiam ace pitcher Tauni Hilliard got Autumn Long to ground out to Folkers to end the game.

Remarkably, Folkers’ aforementioned triple was the Grizzlies’ only hit of the game against Tenino’s Emily Baxter who was the hard-luck losing pitcher, striking out nine while allowing no earned runs in six innings pitched.

Hilliard picked up the win, allowing three runs (one earned) on seven hits with four strikeouts and a walk in a complete-game performance.

Tenino 4, Hoquiam 2

Tenino cleaned up its offense and pitcher Emily Baxter continued to dazzle in handing Hoquiam a 4-2 defeat in the night cap of a doubleheader on Friday.

Hoquiam manufactured a run in the first when Hailey Lawrence — on base with a leadoff walk — scored on an error in the bottom of the first inning.

In the third, Hoquiam scored its first earned run off Baxter on the day when Carron Blood belted a home runs to center field for a 2-0 lead.

But Baxter shut down Hoquiam after that and the Beavers took the lead with three runs in the fourth and added an insurance run in the fifth to earn a split of the twin bill.

Blood went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a double and two RBI.

Emily Elders had Hoquiam’s only other hit in the game on a single in the second inning.

Blood took the loss for Hoquiam, allowing four earned runs on eight hits and a walk with eight strikeouts in seven innings pitched.

Another three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning gave Monte a 10-run rule walk-off win.

Mikayla Stanfield (2-3, 2SB, 2RBI) and Paige Lisherness (2-3, 2R, 2B, 3RBI) led a Bulldogs offense that had seven hits in the contest.

Riley Timmons picked up the win for Monte, allowing a run on two hits and two walks with four strikeouts in four innings pitched.

Montesano 17, Elma 0

Monte scored six in the first, six in the second and five in the fourth to pick up the 10-run rule victory.
