Aberdeen’s Souphommanichanh wins regional 2A wrestling title

Regional champion Souphommanichanh will lead a four-member Aberdeen contingent to Mat Classic

RIDGEFIELD — Aberdeen’s Tyler Souphommanichanh captured the 126-pound championship at the Region I Class 2A Wrestling Tournament on Saturday at Ridgefield.

The AHS junior pinned Mountlake Terrace’s Michael Marquez in 2:41 in the 126-pound title contest.

He will lead a four-man Bobcat contingent to the 2A portion of Mat Classic next weekend at the Tacoma Dome. The top four finishers at each weight advanced.

Bobcat 120-pounder Edgar Salazar was second at his weight. He was pinned by Centralia’s Mykka McAllister with 50 seconds remaining in the title contest.

Aberdeen senior Jacob Jamieson, a state placewinner last year, took third at 195 pounds. He decisioned Tumwater’s Trace Spath in the match to decide third and fourth places.

Bobcat junior Skyler Murray was fourth at 285. He dropped a 1-0 decision to R.A. Long’s Dillon Miller in the third-place contest.

The Bobcats placed fourth in the team competition with 84 points.

Chehalis easily took team honors with 213 1/2 points. Tumwater was second with 131.
