Windy weather to affect western Washington Friday

Gusts to 50 possible along the coast, sustained speeds 25 to 35 mph predicted

A storm system passing mainly to the west of Washington on Friday will bring a good chance of windy conditions across much of Western Washington through Friday night, according to the National Weather Service in Seattle.

According to the weather statement, the most likely scenario would be advisory-level winds — sustained speeds 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph — for the coast, north interior and Puget Sound regions late Friday morning through Friday night. The rest of the interior of Western Washington can expect to see sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 40 mph. These wind speeds can cause localized tree damage and possible power outages.

The Seattle National Weather Service says confidence is “moderate” that the above-predicted winds will occur. They are more confident that Friday’s storm will “not be a widespread wind event.”
