Two injured in truck vs. tow truck wreck near Ocean Shores

Two people were injured early Thursday morning when a vehicle struck a parked tow truck on State Route 109 about 5 miles northeast of Ocean Shores, according to a State Patrol report.

A 57-year-old Hoquiam man was southbound at about 3:45 a.m. as a flatbed tow truck with a vehicle aboard was stationary along the roadway. The report indicates the Hoquiam driver “failed to yield” to the tow truck and drove his 2007 Ford F-150 pickup up the tow ramp and struck the 2007 Honda Fit on the flatbed.

The Hoquiam man was injured and took himself to the hospital, his pickup totaled, according to the report. An update from the State Patrol later Thursday said the man was later flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where his conditions was not immediately known.

The tow truck driver, a 30-year-old Ocean Shores man, and the Honda driver , a 56-year-old Burien woman, were both outside their vehicles at the time of crash. The tow truck driver was also injured and taken to Grays Harbor Community Hospital. The Burien woman was not injured.

The State Patrol report lists the cause of the crash as the Hoquiam man’s failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and he could face charges. The roadway was partially or fully blocked for 90 minutes.
