Project Homeless Connect set for Friday at Senior Center

Grays Harbor County’s annual “Project Homeless Connect” will take place this Friday at the Aberdeen Senior Center, where homeless people can get assistance services for housing, employment, education and more. The event is the day after the “Point in Time” count, in which volunteers go around trying to count how many homeless people are in the county. Last year’s count reported there to be 174 sheltered and unsheltered homeless people in Grays Harbor County. Similar counts are scheduled for every county in the state.

The event is organized by Coastal Community Action Program. Homeless people are invited to come to Project Homeless Connect between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Friday at the Aberdeen Senior Center at 208 W Market St., which is the former Aberdeen Eagles building. There will also be free lunch starting at 11 a.m.

CCAP’s Office Coordinator Jennifer Madison said they are still in need of additional service providers and would like to have a flu shot provider sign up to attend.

Along with housing and employment, there will be services for ID replacement, Social Security benefits, advocacy, Medicaid enrollment, and veterans information, Madison said in an email. The animal shelter PAWS of Grays Harbor will be on hand, along with members of the state Department of Social and Health Services. Doris Reed will be providing acupuncture, Pat’s Trim and Style will be providing haircuts, and Lions Vision Foundation will be providing eye exams.

If any additional service providers want to attend, they can contact Madison at jenniferm@coastalcap.org or 360-533-5100 for more information on Project Homeless Connect or the Point in Time count.
