Port Blakely closes all Washington, Oregon forest lands due to high fire danger

All of Port Blakely’s forest lands in Washington have been closed to access due to high fire danger, the timber company announced Monday.

Property is closed to the public, including foot, horse, motorized and any other form of access.

“While we regret any inconvenience this may cause to recreational users, our decision to prohibit access reflects our priorities: public safety and the protection of our forests,” said company spokeswoman Teresa Loo.

The closure is temporary. Port Blakely employees and security officers are monitoring the weather and actively monitoring unauthorized access, said Loo. Regular allowable access will be permitted once the risk of forest fires decreases and forest conditions are considered safe.
