Pacific County State Patrol pursuit ends in 3-car crash

A State Patrol pursuit across Pacific County ended in a three-car crash and the arrest of a 49-year-old Sacramento, California, woman who was being pursued by a marked State Patrol vehicle Sunday morning.

According to the State Patrol, the pursuit began on southbound Highway 101 at milepost 53, as a black, marked State Patrol Ford Explorer chased the fleeing Sacramento woman in her yellow and white 2014 Fiat 500L. At about 9 a.m. at milepost 11 in the Ilwaco city limits, the patrolman attempted a PIT maneuver — “Pursuit Intervention Technique,” where a pursuing car forces a fleeing vehicle to turn sideways abruptly, causing the driver to lose control and stop — and the Fiat crossed the center line into the northbound lane and struck a 2000 Ford F-350 pickup driven by a a 37-year-old Astoria, Oregon, man.

The pickup was stopped on the right northbound shoulder when it was struck. The Fiat continued over a curb and into an apartment complex yard.

All three vehicles were damaged but there were no injuries reported. The Sacramento woman is facing a felony eluding charge, according to the State Patrol.
