Motorcyclist airlifted to Harborview after early morning SR12 crash

A collision between a pickup truck and a motorcycle on State Route 12 — east of Montesano — early Wednesday morning resulted in the motorcycle rider being airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

“Crews responded to (an) accident early this morning that shut down both lanes of Highway 12,” Grays Harbor Fire District 2 posted on its Facebook page. “One patient was flown to Harborview and another patient was treated for minor injuries.”

A State Patrol report said a 41-year-old Montesano man was driving a Ford F150 pickup northbound on Monte-Brady Loop, while a 42-year-old Orting man was eastbound on the highway approaching the intersection on a motorcycle. The Montesano man turned to go westbound on State Route 12, into the path of the motorcycle. The two collided in the eastbound lanes.

According to the State Patrol report, the pickup driver “fled the scene, parked nearby, and was later located.”

The report stated that drugs or alcohol were involved, but did not specify which driver, and that the incident was under investigation.
