McCleary VFW to host Bingo Night

Family fun comes in many different sizes. Some families take a relaxing approach of piling on the couch to watch a thrilling movie. Other families take a more active route of going out for a night on the town. If you’re searching for something fun for the family, then East County could be the spot this weekend.

The McCleary Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post is hosting their monthly Bingo Night session on Saturday for the whole family to enjoy. BINGO cards are $2 each and winners can obtain prizes ranging from art, crafts, home décor, jewelry, food, and many more. Prizes are donated by local businesses in the McCleary area, community members, as well as members of the VFW.

Holly Pierce, who serves as the Quartermaster/Adjutant for the McCleary VFW Post, said all proceeds from these monthly events go toward the building improvement fund so they can make upgrades to the structure as needed. The McCleary VFW was founded in 1946 with the building being constructed in 1954.

“Since we started these events in September, we have been able to paint the outside of our building and will be getting a new roof this summer,” Pierce said via email. “Hopefully, we will be able to upgrade the bathrooms and paint the inside of the building this fall.”

According to Pierce, these events typically garner around 100 people and give the community family friendly fun that is affordable.

“We only charge $2 a card because we want the whole family to be able to come out and enjoy the evening,” Pierce said. “For our Post members it’s part of our history. We use the original Bingo machine from the 1950s that has been used to call Bingo over the year.”

The VFW serves as a nonprofit veteran’s service organization comprised of eligible veterans and military service members from the active guard and reserve forces. Their roots trace as far back as 1899 and have a membership presence of more than 1.5 million members across the United States today. Some of their core values are to ensure the care of veterans and their families, as well as serve the communities.

For anyone interested in attending McCleary BINGO Night, the event will be held this Saturday, May 14, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at 158 North Summit Road in McCleary. For more information, people can check oout the McCleary VFW Post Facebook page or can contact Holly Pierce at 360-470-2387.
