Incumbent Derek Kilmer easily retains 6th Congressional house position

Challenger Bloom’s call for tax breaks to encourage economic growth falls short with voters

Democrat incumbent Derek Kilmer cruised to an easy victory over Republican challenger Todd Bloom in the race for the 6th Congressional District seat. Bloom, a newcomer to politics, promoted his military record and economics and national security experience but couldn’t take the seat from the more politically experienced Kilmer.

In votes tallied as of election night, Kilmer had 130,326 votes to Bloom’s 79,141, 62 percent of the vote.

Kilmer carried each county in the district – Grays Harbor (58.5 percent), Clallam (56.5 percent), Jefferson (70.6 percent), Mason (52.2 percent), Kitsap (62.4 percent) and Pierce (67.6 percent), according to the state elections website.

Kilmer stressed bringing stakeholders from all points of view to forming solutions to the district’s economic troubles. Bloom stressed providing tax breaks and other incentives to encourage business retention and creation in the district. Both candidates promoted their work with veterans, Bloom being one himself, having served in the Navy for many years.
