Hoquiam Police investigating death reported Sunday

53-year-old man found dead in residence on Simpson Avenue

A 53-year-old Hoquiam man was found dead at a residence in the 2900 block of Simpson Avenue Sunday morning, and evidence indicates the death was not of natural causes, according to Sgt. Jeff Salstrom with the Hoquiam Police Department.

A family member contacted police, saying they had been unable to reach the man and he had missed a shift at work. When officers arrived shortly before noon, they saw the man through a window lying on the ground and unresponsive. After forcing their way into the home the officers found the man was deceased.

Detectives and crime scene investigators were called to process the scene, said Salstrom. Deputy coroners from the Grays Harbor County Coroner’s office were also called to the residence.

“At this time there is no determination on the nature of the death and the investigation is ongoing,” said Salstrom. “Determinations as to the cause and nature of death will not be made until an autopsy is conducted and the results of toxicology tests can be obtained.” Deputy Chief Don Wertanen added that “there is no information indicating any risk to the public.”
