Fireworks possible cause of Ocean Shores structure fire

Fireworks use in the county has firm guidelines for use

The Ocean Shores Fire Department responded to a structure fire early Monday morning on the 600 block of Copalis Avenue.

The call came in for a structure at about 12:43 a.m. according to a news release from the department. Arriving crews found a detached garage fully involved, with flames visible through the side window and the partially destroyed garage door, according to the news release. Crews immediately attacked the fire and it was called extinguished just before 1 a.m.

The incident is still being investigated, according to the news release, but improper disposal of spent fireworks is being considered a factor in the fire. Water is the most effective way of suppressing fire.

Fireworks are not allowed inside city limits, according to the news release, and may only be fired on the beach 100 feet or further from the dunes.
