Dickhoff pulls closer in Auditor’s race, Walsh takes lead in 19th

The race for the second spot on the November ballot in the Grays Harbor Auditor’s office has gotten closer, with Hoquiam Mayor Jasmine Dickhoff pulling to within 16 votes of fellow Democrat Chris Thomas, the incumbent.

Republican Joe MacClean leads the three-person race with 44.1 percent of the total.

Thomas has 4,490 votes and Dickhoff has 4,474. After the second count the afternoon after primary election day, Thomas had a 100-vote lead.

The last round of counting for Grays Harbor was Thursday afternoon and the next will be Monday.

Meantime, Republican Jim Walsh of Aberdeen, has pulled ahead of his Democratic opponent, Erin Frasier of Pe Ell in their 19th District race. Both advance to the general election, but the race will be watched closely by Democrats who want to win the seat back and Republicans who want to maintain a hold on the longtime Democratic seat. The district includes Cowlitz County and parts of Grays Harbor, Pacific, Lewis and Wahkiakum counties.

Initial vote counting had Frasier in the lead. But Friday afternoon, the Secretary of State’s count had Walsh has 16,284 votes (50.29 percent) to Frasier’s 16,096.

Walsh is narrowly winning in Grays Harbor County and also in Lewis and Wahkiakum. Frasier holds slim leads in Cowlitz and Pacific counties.
