Aberdeen woman killed in collision on Ocean Beach Road Tuesday

Sheriff’s Office investigating cause, name of victim has not yet been released

A 29-year-old Aberdeen woman died as a result of a car crash Tuesday evening on Ocean Beach Road near Tulips Road outside Hoquiam, reported Grays Harbor Sheriff Chief Criminal Deputy Steve Shumate.

The woman was identified by Grays Harbor County Coroner Lane Youmans Wednesday as Lily Chen after next of kin had been notified. Youmans said an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

Deputies were called to the scene near mile post 7.6 at 9:48 p.m. to a report of a vehicle partially submerged in a ditch with a female who appeared to be deceased in the driver’s seat. Deputies and aid workers arrived and confirmed that the female driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was deceased.

“It was apparent to investigators that the vehicle involved in the collision, had been traveling northbound on Ocean Beach Road and left the road, striking a power pole,” said Shumate. “The vehicle then came to rest in the nearby ditch.”

The collision is still under investigation. Shumate said the cause of the collision has not yet been determined, but “equipment related issues with the vehicle as well as the wet roadway appear to have been factors.”

Investigators were still working on notifying next of kin for the victim Wednesday so her name has not yet been released.
