Aberdeen man arrested Tuesday for attempted rape of a child

54-year old was a friend of the family; arraignment scheduled for Wednesday afternoon

A 54-year old Aberdeen man was arrested on suspicion of the attempted rape of a child Tuesday, according to Lt. Kevin Darst of the Aberdeen Police Dept.

Officers responded to a residence in Aberdeen just after noon and were told that the suspect, a friend of the family, had fled the home in a green passenger vehicle shortly before the family had returned home. Officers took statements from the juvenile victim and family members and processed the scene.

A probable cause to arrest the suspect was put out via police radio shortly after police arrived. The suspect was located, arrested without incident and taken to the Aberdeen jail. Police expect that the man will be charged with Attempted Rape of a Child in the 2nd Degree.
