Driftwood auditions, Elk River Challenge & pottery classes

Driftwood to hold auditions for ‘See How They Run’

The Driftwood Players will hold auditions for their upcoming production of “See How They Run,” a three-act comedy for all ages.

Auditions are being held at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday July 26 and 27, at the Driftwood Playhouse, 120 East Third St. in Aberdeen.

Director Kathe Rowe and mentored director McKenna Hanson are looking for six men ranging from 20-60 years old and three women ages late 20s to 60s.

Rehearsals will begin in July and run until the opening of the show in September.

Elk River Challenge is back on July 24

Rowers and paddlers will descend on the Elk River Estuary for the 25th annual Elk River Challenge Saturday, July 24.

Canoes, kayaks, row boats, rowing shells, stand-up paddle boards, pedal boats, basically any water craft powered by a human can participate in the race. There are two courses available, one 3 miles, another 7 miles.

Both start on the beach at Brady’s Oysters on the west end of the Elk River Bridge on State Route 105 north of the bridge and skirt most of the estuary.

Races begin at 2 p.m. Saturday; registration opens at 12:30 p.m. at Brady’s Oysters, followed by a pre-race meeting at 1:15 p.m. The registration fee is $15 for in-person registration or $10 if you register online at soundrowers.org.

Potters Guild to offer classes

The Grays Harbor Potters Guild will offer six weeks of classes beginning Saturday, Jule 24, taught by John Benn, a teacher at Bremerton Community College. A class for beginners will meet Saturdays at 10 a.m. and an intermediate class will be offered at 1 in the afternoon.

The Grays Harbor Potters Guild studio is located at 2222 Simpson Ave. in Hoquiam and is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Friday.
