Firefighters tackle grass fire near Elma

Firefighters from East Grays Harbor Fire and Rescue, Montesano, District 2 and the Washington Department of Natural Resources battled a grassfire on a farm just south of Elma that threatened to burn out of control on Saturday afternoon.
Sparked by an equipment malfunction, firefighters responded with speed to prevent the fire from spreading to the nearby structures, said DNR’s assistant fire unit manager Morgan Reisdorfer on the scene.
Working together, firefighters rapidly extinguished the three-acre blaze, with DNR remaining on scene after to mop up and make sure the fire didn’t reignite.
The fire comes as multiple cities in the county have issued total burn bans on all campfires and charcoal- or wood-burning fires. DNR also recently issued a statewide burn ban on all state lands as the hot, dry weather persists. Multiple firefighters from various county departments have also been dispatched across the state to assist efforts to combat massive wildfires sweeping across other counties.
