Kathryn Thomas, a student at Montesano Junior and Senior High School, served as a page earlier this month in the Washington State House of Representatives.
Sponsored by state Rep. Brian Blake, D-Aberdeen, Thomas is the daughter of Dawn and Christopher Thomas of Montesano.
Pages perform a wide variety of responsibilities, from presenting the flags to distributing amendments on the House floor. In addition to contributing to the efficient operation of the Legislature, pages receive daily civics instruction, draft their own bills and participate in mock committee hearings.
“I’ve known Kathryn for many years and can assert, without a doubt, that she is a smart, passionate and enthusiastic student, and I am proud to have been her sponsor in the House of Representatives,” said Blake. “She has a thirst for knowledge, is a quick learner and is very diligent. With those qualities, I wouldn’t be surprised if she decides to run for public office one day.”
