Radio news director appointed to city council spot

Radio news director Dave Haviland was appointed to fill a vacancy in the Aberdeen City Council Wednesday.

Mayor Pete Schave said Haviland was the only applicant for the Ward 1, Position 1 seat previously held by Shaney Frame Crosby, who resigned in mid-April for personal reasons. Crosby was elected to the position in the 2019 election, defeating Robert J. Rodgers.

The council unanimously approved Haviland’s appointment at its Wednesday meeting.

Haviland has been news director for Jodesha Broadcasting since October 2007. Jodesha includes six radio stations on the Harbor, including KBKW.

There is one remaining open seat on the council in Ward 4, vacated by Karen Rowe in mid-May. Anyone from Ward 4 interested in the position should send a resume and cover letter to Schave by June 26.
