Elma Police Department recognizes officers

On Aug. 5, Elma Police Chief Tracy Gay recognized three officers for their dedication and commitment to the citizens of Elma.
For responding to an individual in crisis who was going to jump off the South 3rd Street overpass, Sgt. Clayton Parson was awarded a letter of commendation. Through patience, empathy, and exceptional communication skills, he talked the individual off the ledge and provided emergency services.
Officer Steve Miller was awarded a letter of commendation for assisting Washington State Patrol in a high-risk pursuit involving a wrong-way driver. Miller successfully deployed stop sticks, slowing the vehicle, and reducing the risk of serious bodily injury or death to the suspect, innocent motorists, and responding law enforcement officers.
Officer Josh Wheeler was recognized for his 20 years of dedicated service to the community of Elma. Two decades of commitment and service is an amazing milestone. In honor of his 20 years of service, he was allowed to wear shorts and flip-flops for the group photo.
