In the second half, Aberdeen head coach Larry Fleming utilized the big lead by getting his subs some valuable playing time and having his players play several different positions on the pitch.

Aberdeen goal keeper Dom Trevino was moved up to a striker position and scored a second-half goal as did midfielder Jaylynn Phimmasone to round out the scoring.

“The girls showed improved ball control and put some excellent crosses in to the box,” said Fleming, whose team outshot Hoquiam 29-2 and spent nearly the entire game on the Grizzlies half of the field.

“We are battling through some injuries and had lots of players stepping in to fill other positions,” Hoquiam head coach John Johnson said, noting senior Kali Lund and junior Maci Winkelman played in goal in lieu of injured starter Jemima Perez and backup keeper/forward Chloey Dietrick. “I want to give them credit for stepping into the box with no hesitancy, and all of our players for pushing through.”

Aberdeen hosts WF West in a 2A Evergreen Conference contest at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Hoquiam is back at league play with a match against first-place Montesano at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Olympic Stadium in Hoquiam.
