Weekend Prep Roundup: Johnson leads Monte golf to win over La Center

Montesano 169, La Center 181

Nate Johnson led a quartet of low-scoring Montesano golfers as the Bulldogs earned a 169-181 victory over La Center on Friday at Oaksridge Golf Course.

Johnson took the medalist of the match honors by shooting the only sub-40 score for the 9-hole round with a 39. He was closely followed by teammates Ben Wills and Ben Royer, who shot a 40 and 41, respectively.

Dylan Schoch was the fourth Monte golfer to shoot a sub-50 score, carding a 49 for the round.

Montesano takes on league-rival Hoquiam at 3:30 this afternoon at Oaksridge Golf Course.

Aberdeen’s Sherman, Kempe win Hoquiam Grizzly Invite

Aberdeen cross country runners Gary Sherman and Katharina Kempe won their respective varsity races at the Hoquiam Grizzly Invitational meet on Saturday in Hoquiam.

Sherman ran the 5K course with a time of 17:37.5 to take first place in the boys varsity race.

Montesano freshman Aric Jacklin placed second (17:43.7) with Hoquiam freshman Timmy Higgins placing third (17:48.3).

Kempe cruised to a near-20 second victory in the girls varsity race, crossing the finish line with a time of 22:18.3.

Kempe’s teammate, Bobcats junior Skyler Taylor, placed second (22:38.2) with Hoquiam’s Macie German coming in third (22:55.5).
