Columbia-White Salmon at Montesano
In a matchup of two undefeated teams, each with a pair of blowout wins to their credit this season, something has to give.
Montesano will face a tough test when they host the high-scoring Columbia-White Salmon Bruins at 7 p.m. Friday at Rottle Field.
Columbia-White Salmon (2-0 overall) brings the speed of one Chandlor Bucklin, who scored two receiving TDs, an interception returned for a touchdown and a 53-yard scoring scamper in Week 1. The following week, Bucklin scored on a 37-yard TD catch, a 9-yard TD run and took the opening kickoff to the house for a score.
The Bulldogs (2-0) have looked equally impressive in blowing out Aberdeen, 40-8, in Week 1 and shellacking Shelton, 51-6, on Friday night.
Monte’s balanced offensive attack has proven too much for opposing defenses thus far this season, as the Bulldogs have had little problem moving the ball up field and scoring points.
In its win over Shelton, the Bulldogs have 230 yards rushing, 208 yards passing and six different players scored touchdowns. Monte quarterback Shaydon Farmer passed for four touchdowns in Friday’s win.
Aberdeen at Elma
The Eagles have scored more than 40 points in each of their first two games en route to a 2-0 start to the season. They’ll hope to do much of the same when they host the winless Aberdeen Bobcats at 7 p.m. on Friday.
After suffering a blowout loss to Montesano in the first week of the season, turnovers plagued the Bobcats (0-2) in last week’s 28-7 loss to Hoquiam in the Myrtle Street Rivalry game.
Elma (2-0) hasn’t had near the same problems scoring points as their county counterparts, as the Eagles defeated King’s Way Christian, 48-14, in the season opener and Rochester, 40-12, last Friday.
After running for over 200 yards and earning The Daily World’s ‘Game Ball’ for offense in Week 1, Elma’s Taitum Brumfield had a team-high 24 carries for 156 yards and three scores against Rochester.
Eagles quarterback Cody Vollan also hit triple-digit rushing numbers when he ran for 123 yards and a pair of TDs against Rochester.
Elma has totalled more than 400 yards of offense in each of its first two games this season.
La Center at Hoquiam
The Hoquiam Grizzlies will be looking to go 3-0 when they host the winless La Center Wildcats at 7 p.m. on Friday at Olympic Stadium.
Hoquiam picked up near identical victories over its first two weeks of the season — a 27-7 drubbing of Castle Rock in the opener followed by a 28-7 victory over Aberdeen in the 113th playing of the Myrtle Street Rivalry last Friday.
In the Aberdeen game, Hoquiam defensive back Jackson Folkers picked off Aberdeen quarterback Ben Dublanko four times, including twice in the fourth quarter. He also caught five passes for 140 yards.
Hoquiam quarterback Payton Quintanilla has also looked good early in the season. The senior gunslinger went 15-for-33 for 229 yards and two touchdowns in last week’s rivalry game.
La Center, on the other hand, has had its difficulties in the first two weeks of the season.
The Wildcats (0-2) were shutout, 19-0, in their opener at Ridgefield and were outscored 21-6 in the second half of a 40-20 loss to Woodland in Week 2.
In the Woodland game, the Wildcats surrendered 523 total yards of offense — 208 on the ground and 315 through the air.
PWV at Raymond
Raymond will be looking for its first win of the season against a Pe Ell-Willapa Valley team that should be feeling good after last week’s blowout victory.
PWV suffered a humbling loss in the season opener, falling 35-0 to Adna, but bounced back with a 42-0 win over Concrete last week.
The Titans had to fight through injuries against Concrete, playing multiple athletes that had no varsity experience until Saturday’s game against the Lions.
Among the injured was Titans starting quarterback Matt Pearson.
In his absence, backup quarterback Logan Walker went 7-for-13 for 80 yards and a touchdown.
Raymond has been a hard-luck team at this point of the season, suffering two close losses to start the year.
The Seagulls stayed within a touchdown of Rainier for most of its season-opening game before falling 27-10 and dropped a 28-20 game to Morton-White Pass last week.
Raymond has benefited from some tremendous production from its backfield, namely Patrick Edwards, who rushed for 207 yards on 28 carries last week, and McCartney Maden, who gained 112 yards against MWP.
Raymond will hope for some better luck this week when they kick off against the Titans at 7 p.m this Friday.
South Bend at Ocosta
It will be Ocosta’s run game going up against South Bend’s passing attack in this Week 3 matchup.
Ocosta didn’t have any trouble with Chief Leschi last week as they defeated the Warriors, 50-8.
Behind a big Ocosta offensive line, running back Kobe Beck ran for 182 yards and three touchdowns.
The Wildcats (2-0) will face a tough South Bend defense that allowed 14 points in last week’s victory over Winlock.
Indians quarterback Drew Rose had a solid day passing and went 12-for-18 with 201 yards and two touchdowns. Rose also led the team in rushing with 171 yards on 26 attempts and was awarded The Daily World’s ‘Game Ball’ on offense for his efforts.
Ocosta will be looking to avenge last year’s 34-9 loss to South Bend when the game kicks off at 7 p.m. on Friday in Westport.
