Rochester dual meet

ROCHESTER — Aberdeen’s Kyle Hurd and Faith Cardenas each came away with an individual victory in an Evergreen 2A Conference dual meet with Rochester on Wednesday.

“We still need to clean up our serving, but we were aggressive in our hitting and we were a lot better in our serve-receive,” Hoquiam coach Heather Bozich said. “Everybody worked really well together and came together as a team. They stayed positive and we took care of the ball on our side.”

TUKWILA — Highline Community College used a speedy attack to defeat Grays Harbor College in an NWAC West Division match at Starfire Field on Wednesday.

GHC (0-9, 1-11-1) came out with a more defensive formation early in the game, switching to a 5-4-1, but the top team in the West Division was still able to convert opportunities into goals. Highline’s Madasin Jennings scored the first goal of a hat trick in the fifth minute before adding goals in the 25th and 66th minutes.

“They had a relentless attack,” GHC coach Chris Schumacher said. “They played the passing lanes very well between our defenders and they had lightning fast forwards that flew by our defenders.”

Highline notched six goals in the first 40 minutes, but the GHC defense began to even the game out in the second half.

The Chokers limited Highline to Jennings’ final goal and an own goal in the second half.

Schumacher cited goalkeeper Emily Bjornsgard, who finished with 14 saves, for a strong performance in net.

GHC will host Green River on Saturday.
