Indians win in three

OYEHUT — South Bend earned the Pacific League’s final district volleyball berth with a 25-16, 25-8, 25-10 win over North Beach on Wednesday night at Oyehut.

The Indians (2-6, 4-10) advance to the District IV Class 2B tourney beginning Saturday. They will face Central League runner-up Napavine at 11:30 a.m. at Napavine.

Hannah Byington served nine aces and connected on 24-of-25 service attempts on Wednesday. Outside hitters Livvie Ogilvie and Riley Hampton were credited with fine net play. Ogilvie delivered four kills and did not commit a hitting error.

“We ended our season strong and are looking forward to district competition,” South Bend coach Tricia Needham said.

The Hyaks concluded their season at 1-7 and 1-12.

South Bend wrapped up a 7-5-1 junior varsity campaign with a 20-25, 25-14, 15-2 win. Tribe JV coach Kelsey Staats commended her team for its play.

Gulls in three

RAYMOND — With Karlee Freeman contributing 11 kills and six aces, Raymond concluded Pacific League competition with a 25-13, 25-17, 25-4 rout of Chief Leschi on Wednesday at Raymond.

The Gulls (6-1, 11-3) tied with Ocosta and Northwest Christian for second place in the league. Following coin flips, Raymond wound up as the league’s fourth seed and will face Wahkiakum in a District IV Class 2B opener scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Mossyrock.

Maddi Murray had four kills and three aces and Myranda Heckard had five kills for Raymond on Wednesday.

“Overall, everyone got to play last night and we had a good night,” Raymond coach Bob Swogger said.

Six Raymond seniors were honored in Senior Night ceremonies.

Wildcats fall in four

TACOMA — Life Christian Academy clinched the Pacific League championship with a four-set win over Ocosta on Wednesday at Tacoma.

Details were unavailable. Finishing in a three-way tie for second, Ocosta (6-2, 11-3) wound up as the league’s third seed. The Wildcats will open district 2B competition against Onalaska at 10 a.m. Saturday at Napavine.

GIRLS SOCCER

Bearcats 2, Bulldogs 1

MONTESANO — Class 2A Chehalis nipped Montesano in a hastily-arranged non-league contest Wednesday at Rottle Field.

Montesano’s Anna Ayres scored in the second half to tie it, but the Bearcats picked up the game-winning goal with about 12 minutes remaining.

The contest was secheduled to allow both teams to better prepare for district competition.

By mutual agreement of the coaches, the clubs also engaged in a penalty-kick shootout. The Bulldogs won that, 5-4.

Montesano will host a district 1A semifinal contest Nov. 2.
