After the sudden-death first overtime ended scoreless, Olson scored a reversal in the second OT to take a 6-4 lead, then rode out his opponent in the third extra session.

TUMWATER — Scoring three points in the final five seconds, Tumwater handed Aberdeen a heartbreaking defeat in an Evergreen 2A Conference opener Wednesday at Tumwater.

Down by 10 at the half, the Bobcats took a 58-57 lead when Jeshua Manwell sank two foul shots with 10 seconds remaining.

Tumwater’s Jack Koelsch, fouled on the next possession, made the first of two free throws. His second missed, but Thomas Drayton — perhaps best known as Tumwater’s standout tight end in football — secured the rebound and scored on the putback.

“Overall, I was pleased with our effort,” Bobcat coach Mark Buckman said. “It was important to prove that we could play a solid third quarter and we did so. We continue to give up too many offensive rebounds to bigger teams.”

Ben Dublanko paced the Bobcats with 21 points — 14 of those coming in the second half. Javier Bojorge added 15 points, five rebounds and four steals, while Manwell contributed seven rebounds.

The Cats (0-1, 2-8) return to Tumwater on Thursday to face Black Hills.
