GIRLS PREP SOCCER

Ocosta 8, Ilwaco 1

After a 15-day hiatus due to a district-wide COVID lockdown, the Ocosta Wildcats returned to the pitch on Wednesday, earning an 8-1 victory over Ilwaco in Westport.

Ocosta (5-4 overall, 2-1 2B Pacific) got on the board in the second minute when Kylee Denny scored off a rebound of a blocked shot.

Seven minutes later, Miki Ness connected with Natalie Carloza for a goal.

Maddie Schaeffer then sent a cross to Ness for a goal in the 25th minute followed by Trinity White stealing a pass and scoring in the 36th minute.

With Ocosta up 4-0 at the half, the Wildcats continued to control possession and pass effectively, and Ness was the beneficiary of the Wildcats performance. Ness scored three additional goals in the second half — two on assists from Kylee Denny and another on a feed from Meghan Denny — to give her four goals in the game.

White added an assist to her stat line when her direct free kick led to Nevaeh Smith’s first goal of the season to give Ocosta an 8-0 lead.

Ilwaco scored on a breakaway with five seconds left in stoppage time.

“I was concerned about how we would look after not playing for two weeks, but the girls were excited to be on the pitch again,” Ocosta head coach Mike Kings said. “We had a good focus and shared the ball extremely well. Ilwaco is to be commended for not giving up and playing hard throughout the game.”
