Washington senators Patty Murray (D-WA) and Maria Cantwell (D-WA) introduced a resolution honoring the Seattle Storm on their WNBA championship.

“It is an honor to recognize our hometown basketball heroes, the Seattle Storm, on their successful season and outstanding achievement in this year’s WNBA finals,” Murray said in a statement. “From the hard-earned efforts of the entire Storm roster, including superstars Sue Bird, Breanna Stewart, and the coaches, health professionals, and staff that make the Storm organization so successful, to their unapologetic support for important causes impacting women and girls, the Storm have cemented their legacy as one of the premier teams in the league while providing a strong model of how professional athletes can win while also living their commitments to their values on and off the court.

“Young girls—and boys—in Washington state and around the nation will continue to be inspired by the Storm’s excellence, and I’m thrilled to recognize their impressive achievements in Congress as we welcome home another championship trophy.”

And Cantwell added: “Congratulations to the Seattle Storm players, coaches, managers, and staff on their national championship. We’re so proud these women have brought home the national title. This season the Storm came together for a memorable title run that made Washingtonians proud. Their teamwork leadership, and camaraderie is a testament to what can be achieved when we work together.”

The Storm finished the regular season as the top seed in the league with a 26-8 record of 26-8. Seattle defeated the Washington Mystics in a three-game Finals sweep to capture its third franchise championship.
