Tuesday Roundup: Elma, Montesano, Ocosta pick up key baseball victories

Eagles defeat 2A WF West; Monte sweeps Hoquiam; Ocosta’s Scheuber tosses no-hitter

Elma picked up an impressive win over a 2A team; Montesano sweeps a doubleheader against Hoquiam; and Ocosta ace Colby Scheuber tosses a no-hitter as we review Tuesday’s prep sports on the Twin Harbors.

BASEBALL

Elma 7, WF West 6

Jarred Bailey tripled and later scored on a JT Tiffany sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to give Elma a 7-6 victory over WF West on Tuesday in Elma.

Elma (6-4 overall, 4-4 1A Evergreen) collected seven hits in the game, led by Brett Palmer (2-3, 2B, 2R, 2RBI), Justin Elliott (1-2, 2B, RBI) and Tyson Baun (1-1, 2B, RBI).

Four Elma pitchers combined to allow five earned runs on seven hits. Bailey got the win, allowing three earned runs on two walks and a strikeout in an inning pitched. Andrew Saunders picked up the save, holding the Bearcats scoreless in the seventh on two hits with a strikeout.

Montesano 15, Hoquiam 1

Montesano pounded 12 hits in a 15-1 five-inning victory over Hoquiam in the first game of a doubleheader on Tuesday in Hoquiam.

Monte (10-2, 8-0 1A Evergreen) scored five in the third and six in the fifth inning to pull away from Hoquiam (2-7, 2-6).

Jackson Busz (2-4, R, 4RBI), Isaiah Pierce (3-4, 3R, RBI) and Bode Poler (2-3, R) had multi-hit games for the Bulldogs.

Hoquiam got hits from Cayden Kemp (3-3, RBI) and Chris Grayson (1-2).

Trace Ridgway (5IP, ER, 4H, 9K, 2BB) picked up the win for Montesano while Hoquiam’s Todd Mefford (4.1IP, 8ER, 11H, 3K, 5BB) took the loss.

Montesano 18, Hoquiam 7

Three big innings led Montesano to an 18-7 win over Hoquiam in the night cap of a doubleheader on Tuesday at Olympic Stadium in Hoquiam.

Monte scored five in the second, five in the third and eight runs in the seventh on 12 hits.

The two teams combined for 11 errors in the game, five for Monte while the Hoquiam defense committed six errors.

Dylan Schoch (3-4, 2B, 3R, 2RBI) and Bode Poler (1-2, 2R, 3RBI) led Monte’s offense.

Hoquiam was led by Zander Jones (2-3, 2B, 2R, 4RBI) and Camden Templer (2-2, 2R, RBI).

Tyler Johansen (4.2IP, 4ER, 3H, 7K, 4BB) picked up the win for Monte.

Ocosta 11, Northwest Christian 1

Colby Scheuber tossed a five-inning no-hitter as Ocosta defeated Northwest Christian 11-1 in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Tuesday in Westport.

Ocosta (8-4, 5-1 2B Pacific) led 8-0 after two innings and totalled eight hits in the game.

The Wildcats were led by Andrew Martin (2-3, 2R), Kjirstin Hopfer (2-3, 2R) and Schueber (1-2, R, 2RBI).

Scheuber allowed no hits in the game, striking out 12 with four walks in five innings pitched. His only run allowed came on a wild pitch with two outs in the top of the third inning.

Ocosta 530 3x — 11 8 1

Ocosta 17, Northwest Christian 6

Ocosta completed a twin-bill sweep over Northwest Christian with a 17-6 victory on Tuesday in Westport.

The Wildcat offense stayed red-hot in Game 2, smacking 10 hits and was helped along by 10 errors from the NWC defense.

Ocosta took a 5-0 lead in the first inning on Frederick Bishop’s two-run home run and would score three in the fifth, six in the sixth and three more in the seventh to pick up the victory.

Kjirstin Hopfer (2-3, 2R, 3RBI), Colby Scheuber (2-3, 2B, 2R, 2RBI) and Jackson Reid (2-3, 2R) had multi-hit games with Harley Figueroa (1-5, 3R, 3RBI) driving in three runs for the Wildcats.

Figueroa would pick up the victory, holding NWC scoreless and hitless with five walks and seven strikeouts over four innings pitched.
