Tuesday girls basketball roundup: Aberdeen knocks off Forks

Bobcats 64, Forks 59

In an old-fashioned shootout, Aberdeen defeated Forks in a non-league game at Sam Benn Gym on Tuesday.

Led by six 3-pointers from Kyra Gallinger, the Bobcats had the slightly hotter hand to beat the Spartans. Gallinger and Dani Buckman each finished with 20 points for the Bobcats.

“It was just some really great shooting from both teams,” Aberdeen coach Jeff Niemi said. “I knew they had some shooters and they hit four 3-pointers in the first half and we were shooting the ball really well. Our zone offense turned the corner tonight. Jillian Swor scored all of her seven points in the fourth quarter on our zone offense.”

Swor had eight rebounds to go with her seven points. Along with the double-figure nights from Gallinger and Buckman, Mari Rabung added 11 points for the Bobcats (3-1).

Aberdeen hosts Vashon Island on Saturday.

AMANDA PARK — A slow start for Lake Quinault helped Wishkah edge past the Elks in a Coastal 1B League game on Tuesday.

Wishkah’s Ally Ancich scored 15 points to lead the Loggerettes (3-0) to victory.

“Three of our main starters are out due to injury so that really hurt us,” Quinault coach Chris Christiansen said. “In the first half, we just couldn’t figure out our offense. We were trying to force things and it really wasn’t working. In the second half, we made some adjustments and were able to out-score them in both the third and forth quarter.”

Freshman Kariana Cole scored six points to lead the Elks (1-2).
