Titans 47, Wildcats 7
PE ELL — Erupting for three touchdowns in the first quarter, Pe Ell-Willapa Valley trounced Ocosta in a Southwest Washington 2B Coastal Division opener Friday at Pe Ell.
The normally ground-oriented Titans (1-0, 3-2) were also effective through the air. Starting quarterback Matt Pearson completed 7-of-8 passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns while freshman Logan Walker uncorked a 79-yard scoring pass to Ryan Shepherd in the fourth quarter.
Ocosta’s first two possessions ended in interceptions. After PWV’s Max Smith opened the scoring with a 16-yard run, Kobe Hoffman both tipped and intercepted a pass to set up Peter Hamilton’s 12-yard scoring run.
Pearson’s 8-yard run late in the first quarter gave the Titans a 22-0 lead at the first break. After Tyson Nissell’s 3-yard run scoring run in the second quarter, Pearson hit Smith and Hamilton on TD passes of 52 and 57 yards to make it 41-0 at the half.
Carter Peason, Matt’s cousin, kicked three conversions while Shepherd ran for a 2-pointer.
“We came out with a lot of intensity,” Titan coach Josh Fluke said. “We had a pretty fast tempo on offense and the line blocked stellar.”
Ocosta (0-1, 2-3) scored in the fourth quarter on Cole Hatton’s 8-yard pass to Kobe Beck. Paul Bjornsgard kicked the conversion.
“They were more physical than us the whole first half,” Wildcat coach Chris Raffelson said. “We gave them good field position and put them up 22-0 pretty quickly.”
Hoffman finished with two interceptions. Nissell and Smith made seven tackles apiece.
On Friday, PWV travels to South Bend for an early league showdown. Ocosta hosts North Beach on Oct. 7.
