Tiger Woods reportedly had five different drugs in his system when police pulled him over in the middle of the night and arrested him on suspicion of DUI in Jupiter Memorial Day weekend, according to a toxicology report released by the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office.
According to the report, Woods, 41, had two pain killers (Vicodin, Dilaudid), two mood/sleeping pills (Xanax, Ambien) and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the active ingredient in marijuana.
Woods told police at the time of his arrest that he was taking the painkiller Vicodin after a recent back surgery and also had a prescription for Xanax. Medical marijuana use has been legal in Florida since Jan. 3.
It is not known if Woods had prescriptions for all of the medications.
On Wednesday, Woods was scheduled to be arraigned on a DUI charge in Palm Beach County, but the arraignment was canceled shortly before it was to begin, the Palm Beach Post reported. Woods, a 14-time majors champion, will likely enter a first-time DUI offender diversion program that could leave him with a clear record.
Since there is no longer an active criminal investigation, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office made the toxicology results available Monday and a copy was first obtained by ESPN.
Woods checked himself into a clinic in June to get help dealing with prescription drugs and announced last month he had completed treatment.
“As I previously said, I received professional help to manage my medications,” Woods said Monday in a statement released through a spokesman. “Recently, I had been trying on my own to treat my back pain and a sleep disorder, including insomnia, but I realize now it was a mistake to do this without medical assistance. I am continuing to work with my doctors, and they feel I’ve made significant progress. I remain grateful for the amazing support that I continue to receive and for the family and friends that are assisting me.”
Woods has had four surgeries on his back since the spring of 2014, the most recent being fusion surgery.
He has not competed on the PGA tour since February and won’t return this year. His last victory was in August 2013. His last major victory was the 2008 U.S. Open.
