Willapa Valley 3, Ilwaco 0

The Willapa Valley Vikings played a sound game all around en route to a 3-0 straight-set victory over Ilwaco on Thursday at Willapa Valley High School.

The Titans (4-1) landlocked the Fishermen (2-1) by scores of 25-12, 25-18 and 25-19.

Katie Adkins finished with six digs and was perfect in service for the Vikings while teammate Jeorgi Ritzman had seven assists to lead Willapa Valley.

Vikings head coach Karissa Hodel commended the two seniors for their solid and consistent play.

“(Adkins) was excellent in her back-row play and without (Ritzman), we probably wouldn’t have had a successful attack without her,” Hodel said. “(Ritzman) did a good job of changing her sets and spreading the ball out to different hitters.”

Oliva Betrozoff led the Vikings with eight kills on a night where Willapa Valley went 82 percent in kill conversions.

“She didn’t just go up and try to smash it. She did a good job of finding where the holes were,” Hodel said of Betrozoff’s accuracy. “She was finding the spots that were open.”

Senior setter Kaitlyn Clements also had a good day for Willapa Valley as the senior setter had a 100% passing and 100% service percentage in the game.

Willapa Valley opens its 2B Pacific League schedule when the Titans face Life Christian Academy on the road at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Ocosta 3, Aberdeen 0

Ocosta’s Layne Martin and 13 kills while setter Emily Snider tallied 24 assists as the Wildcats earned a straight-set home victory over Aberdeen on Thursday.

Ocosta (4-1) controlled the pace of play in the 25-20, 25-18 and 25-17 victory over an Aberdeen team that Bobcats head coach Doug Basler said took another step forward, but still has much work to do.

“Our offense looked a little more fluid tonight,” he said. “I feel like we made another step forward, but still have some things to work on before we start league next week.”

Aside from Martin and Snider, Evalyn Marsh was a perfect 18-for-18 in service and had 13 digs as Ocosta played its third game in as many days.

“(We) passed well, which set up our offense tonight,” Ocosta head coach Barbara Rasmus said.

Aberdeen (0-5) was led by Kennedy Pruett, who had 15 kills on the night. Merry Bruner had 21 assists and Chantheda No added 14 digs for the Bobcats.

Raymond 3, South Bend 0

Raymond head coach Bob Swogger moved some chess pieces around and it paid off as Raymond broke a three-game losing streak with a straight-set victory over South Bend on Thursday in Raymond.

Raymond (2-3) — which won the non-league contest by scores of 25-14, 25-13 and 25-5 — played an aggressive, clean style of volleyball than they had in the losing streak, according to Swogger.

“We were more aggressive and cut down on our free balls considerably,” he said. “Our hitting percentage was also in the positive for the first time in a couple games. We made some position changes which I think allowed people to be more successful in their new positions than they had been.”

One of the changes Swogger made that paid of was moving Destiny Souvannavanh to outside hitter. The senior who missed all of last season with knee injuries had five kills and four aces in her first start at the position.

Raymond will host a plethora of Pacific County teams at the Raymond Volleyball Tournament starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

South Bend’s junior varsity team beat Raymond JV 25-20, 23-25 and 15-13.

South Bend 14 13 5 — 0

Raymond 25 25 25 — 3

Top Players: Raymond — Souvannavanh (5 kills, 4 aces); Sidney Swogger (2 aces)

Centralia 3, Hoquiam 0

Hoquiam couldn’t find the win column in its last non-league contest of the season, falling 3-0 on the road to Centralia on Thursday night.

Centralia (1-3) won the match 25-19, 25-16 and 25-22 to give the Tigers their first win of the season.

The Grizzlies got a solid performance out of libero Hailey Lawerence with 12 digs and serving successfully on all 12 of her attempts.

Hoquiam head coach Heather Bozich was disappointed with the result, but pleased with the net-front presence of Chloe Kennedy.

“Chloe Kennedy did a great job at the net. She had two blocks and got a hand on everything,” Bozich said. “She had a great all around performance.”

Bozich also cited Kamryn Krohn for her consistent play throughout the match.

Hoquiam (1-4) will start league play on Tuesday with a match at Montesano at 7 p.m.

Centralia 25 25 25 – 3

Hoquiam 19 16 22 – 0

WF West 1, Elma 0

Battling a barrage of injuries, Elma couldn’t muster any offense as they lost a defensive struggle to WF West 1-0 on Thursday in Elma.

WF West (5-0-1) scored the only goal of the match in the 30th minute when the ball was sent five yards from the goal line and poked in from close range.

The Eagles (1-3-2) couldn’t get on the scoreboard and entered the match without Kayli Johnson, who tore her ACL against Tumwater on Sept. 17.

Elma head coach Evan Valentine said his players will need time to grow into their new roles as junior varsity players get more varsity playing time.

“We’ve had so many injuries and so much rotation this year I’ve had to bring up a lot of junior varsity kids and it’s been hard on the fluidity of the team,” he said. “It’s hard to get that continuity. But I’m really happy with the number of shots we allowed and keeping the score low. They’re starting to pick it up. It just takes time.”

Elma’s takes on Tenino at 7 p.m. as the Eagles kick off their league schedule at home on Tuesday.

Elma 0 0 – 0

WF West 1 0 – 1
