Willapa Valley’s trip to the state tournament was short-lived as the Vikings lost twice in straight sets on Thursday at the SunDome in Yakima, ending their season.
The Vikings (17-5 overall) lost in the first round to La Conner by scores of 25-12, 25-16 and 25-3, dashing any hopes of a state championship and relegating Willapa Valley to the consolation round.
Later that evening, Willapa Valley lost in straight sets to Colfax, ending its tournament run.

Aberdeen 1523, Montesano 1390
Though they only had two returning bowlers from last season’s squad, the Aberdeen Bobcats earned a 1,523-1,390 victory over Montesano on Thursday at Rainier Lanes in Aberdeen.
Led by newcomer Sierra Hammond, Aberdeen (1-0) held a 683-572 advantage in Game 1 and won both Baker games by scores of 130-119 and 140-119, respectively.
Montesano, which was led by Kaylee Lundgren, won Game 2 580-570.
Hammond and Lundgren tied for the top series score of the match, each ending the season-opener with a score of 310.
“It was a good to start with a win with so many new faces,” said Aberdeen head coach Dave Bruncke, whose Bobcats teams have 24 bowlers on its roster this season.
