CENTRALIA — Miguel Torres and Tony Oropeza scored twice each as Aberdeen clinched the Evergreen 2A Conference’s top-seeded berth with a rout of Centralia on Thursday night at Tiger Stadium.

The victory assured the Bobcats (8-1, 12-2) no worse than a share of the league title. Since they own the tiebreaker differential on runner-up Tumwater, they are assured the league’s No. 1 slot for district competition. They will host a first-round district contest May 6.

The Cats needed only three minutes to open the scoring. Sophomore wing Christian Sanchez took a chip over the top from Miguel Torres, settled the ball and beat the goalkeeper from 12 yards out.

Torres scored on a one-on-one situation against the goalkeeper in the 32nd minute, with Cesar Corona providing the assist.

Oropeza’s unassisted goal from 18 yards out one minute later made it 3-0 at the half.

Torres, Oropeza and Luis Martinez scored in the second half. Corona, Robby Lewis and Luis Garcia had the assists.

Alexis Garcia and Corona combined for Aberdeen’s 11th shutout of the season. Sanchez, Rigo Alvarez, Damon McCormick and David Housden were cited by AHS coach Larry Fleming for solid performances.

“This was a very good performance for the boys in all aspects of the game,” Fleming said. “They have improved so much as the season has progressed and hopefully we keep moving in this direction.

Centralia won the JV match, 1-0. Aberdeen’s Bryan Vega and Christian Bateman were commended for fine performances.

The Bobcats close out the regular season Tuesday at home against Rochester. In addition to Senior Night festivities, Youth Soccer Night will be observed.
