Clubbers win gold at Senior Games

The Aro Glass Clubbers senior men’s softball team won its fifth straight gold medal on July 2 in Shelton.

The Clubbers won four games, including a 22-14 victory over the Pounders in the championship game.

Mike Hayley led the way offensively for the Clubbers, hitting .737 for the tournament.

John Delia (.682), Wayne Ross (.682) and Bob Paylor (.625) also contributed to the Clubbers’ gold-medal run.

Hoquiam to host state youth baseball tournament

Hoquiam Youth Baseball will be hosting the Cal Ripken Major 60 State Tournament today through Saturday at Jump Field (located near Olympic Stadium) in Hoquiam.

Opening ceremonies for the Cal Ripken Baseball sanctioned tournament begin at 6 p.m. today and will include several skills competitons, including a home-run derby and accuracy toss.

Admission for the five-team tournament is free.

Bombers softball tryouts scheduled

The Hoquiam Bombers Fastpitch Organization has scheduled tryouts for Saturday, July 28 and Wednesday, Aug. 1 at John Gable Park in Hoquiam.

Tryouts are to begin at 5 p.m. on July 28 for ages 10-and-under and 13-and-under followed by 6 p.m. tryouts for groups 11-and-under and 15-and-under.

On Wednesday, Aug. 1, ages 10U and 13U will start at 6 p.m. followed by 11U and 15U at 7 p.m.

The total player fee cost to play is $400 and includes a base fee, two uniforms, a helmet and a bat pack.

Returning players only need to play the base player fee ($300) plus any gear needing to be replaced.

Pogie meeting today

There will be a Pogie Club meeting at 7:30 p.m. today at the Elks Lodge located at 624 K Street in Hoquiam.
