Clubbers take fourth at Huntsman Games

The Aro Glass Clubbers softball team went 5-2 over the weekend to place fourth in its division of the Huntsman Senior Games in St. George, Utah.

Wayne Ross led the way for the Clubbers, hitting three home runs and batting .800 for the tournament. Other Twin Harbors area players that contributed for the Clubbers were Mike Hatley (.765), Larry Lytle (.591), Bob Paylor (.529) and Don Mehlhoff (.500).

Over its past seven tournaments, the Clubbers have a record of 29-15. They’ll compete at the Tournament of Champions in Winter Haven, Florida in early February.

WSU to host ESPN’s College Gameday for first time

College Gameday has been going on the road since 1993 and in the past 15 years, a random Washington State University flag has appeared on every single show. “Ol’ Crimson” has been to South Bend, Columbus, Tallahassee and even a few national title games.

This coming Saturday, it can — finally — stay home.

Because for the first time in the show’s history, College Gameday will be headed to Pullman, for the big Pac-12 North showdown between the 5-1 Washington State Cougars and the 5-1 Oregon Ducks.

For the past few weeks, fans of the show advocated for a trip to Pullman, and with the Ducks 30-27 victory over UW this past Saturday it seemed even more possible. During the Michigan-Wisconsin game on ABC’s Saturday Night College Football producer, Chris Fallica had teased the possibility of Pullman getting the Gameday site.

Even ABC sideline reporter Maria Taylor talked about how she wanted to head to the Palouse during the broadcast.

It won’t be the first time that WSU has had a team on College Gameday as they’ve been the featured school twice, in the 1997 Rose Bowl vs. Michigan and a regular season matchup in 2002 at Ohio State.

Finally, Ol’ Crimson gets a home game.

Huskies fall to No. 15 after loss to Oregon

Washington fell eight spots to No. 15 to the Associated Press Top 25 poll following its 30-27 overtime loss to Oregon on Saturday.

The Huskies were one of four top-10 teams that fell this weekend. Georgia dropped from No. 2 to No. 8 after losing to LSU. West Virginia went from No. 6 to No. 13 after falling to Iowa State, while Michigan State’s victory over Penn State dropped the Nittany Lions from No. 8 to No. 19.

UW is 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the Pac-12. The Huskies will face Colorado, who dropped out of the poll after losing to USC, at Husky Stadium on Saturday.

No. 12 Oregon was the highest-ranked Pac-12 team. The Ducks moved up from five spots from No. 17. Washington State was the only other ranked Pac-12 team. The Cougars entered at No. 25 after a bye week.
