Montesano youth soccer team advances to Rec Cup semis; South Bend announces fall sports awards

Thunder advance to semifinals

The Montesano Maroon Thunder 11-and-under girls soccer team defeated the Silverdale Lady Bugs 1-0 in a quarterfinal matchup of the Rec Cup at Jack Rottle Field on Saturday.

Mary Campbell scored the goal off an assist from Haley Schweppe.

With the win, the Maroon Thunder, which plays under the Montesano Youth Soccer Club banner, advanced to the Rec Cup semifinals on Saturday at the Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila.

South Bend announces fall sports awards

South Bend High School released their list of fall sports award honors on Monday. Award winners were as follows:

Football: Captain — Drew Rose, Logan Stamos, Preston Lawhead, Jeffrey Fetters, Chase Flynn

Lineman of the Year — Jaxon Jett

Defensive MVP — Drew Rose

Coaches Award — Preston Lawhead

Freshman of the Year — Ken Yi

Volleyball: Captain — Karley Reidinger, Jessica Sanchez

Most Improved — Alathia Markwell

Coaches Award — Jessica Sanchez

Girls Soccer: Captain — Zaira Medina

Most Inspirational — Cynthia Orozco

Most Improved — Jackie Delgado

Coaches Award — Athziri Tolentino
